Der Weg Einer Freiheit

1. Can you explain to Italian fans your monicker Der Weg Einer Freiheit? Why have you chose this name?
I chose this name because it expresses exactly what the band and the music stands for: Freedom in every way.
You can say that I compressed my person, feelings, emotions, impressions and my view of nowadays world in
this piece of music.
2. Can you tell us about the name of your new label?
It's a well-established german-based label which has released some great works in the past, that's all
information I can give you at this point of time. More details about the re-release and the label's name are still
to come within the next few weeks.
3. Why have you decided to reproduce your debut album?
It was quite overwhelming that our debut album hit upon such positive feedback. The fact that the first edition
was sold out within a couple of weeks and we still get orders for the album let us think about a re-release. And
because I managed the whole production and shipping process of the CD myself it was a load of work for me
and I looked for a suitable label to make things easier.
4. What about Bär? We think he made a good job with the vocals, but what is the main lyrics' concept?
Bär and I know eachother for quite a long time now and he established a great voice – espacially for this kind
of music. I already played (and still play) in several bands and recorded much stuff with him so it was clear
that he would take over the part of the vocalist in DWEF. I'm highly satisfied with his vocals on the debut even
if he didn's know any of the lyrics and lines until the day when the recordings of the vocals started. The lyrics'
concept comes along with what I already said in the answer of the first question. It's all about personal
feelings, emotions, pictures and ideology but not story-telling.

5. Are you searching a drummer to complete your line-up or do you prefer programing drums for some reason?
DER WEG EINER FREIHEIT was started as a project, that was the basic idea. We never intended to play live-
shows and because it's very hard to find good and passionate drummers for this kind of music I decided to
program the drums on the computer and make the best of it. If the new stuff is programmed again or with real
drums this time I can't say at the moment.
6. What are the main influences on your music (bands or artists)?
Everything I experience in life. And of course music is a big part of this. Currently my favs are Devil Sold His
Soul and Lantlôs. Beside these I love german black metal like Nagelfar, Orlog or Helrunar and certainly there
are many more to name – but not here.
7. Is there some new band you like in Germany or all over the world? I think now there are many releases and
new bands that play high quality and original black metal especially if you look at the "depressive" black metal.
You can't really call it black metal but the aforementioned british band Devil Sold His Soul plays one of the
most dynamic, energetic and emotional music I know at the moment. Of course and as always that's a subjective
and sentimental point of view but it's my opinion. In the (depressive) black metal sector there are Nyktalgia or
ColdWorld to mention for instance which both I really like. Especially ColdWorld has a unique style you can't
find anywhere else, the harmonies and melodies are just beautiful.
8. What is the secret to play black metal with originality, high intensity and passion? There are many valid
bands but often being good at the instruments is not enough.
You don't even have to be skilled on your instrument to play or create passionate and intense music. I think it
can help you but the spirit of the music doesn't come from that. Every musician has – or should have – an own
style of writing music. For me it's very important that the melodies or riffs of a song arouse a special feeling,
create a picture or tell some kind of story. If they are combined logically and harmonious you can identify
yourself with the music and you start to like it. There is no instruction, if you have the musical requirements
just be who you are and write the music you want to so you will sound true, original and passionate
"automatically".
9. Can you introduce your other bands Fuck Your Shadow From Behind and Frostgrim? What are the main
differences from these two bands and Der Weg Einer Freiheit?
Superficially seen FYSFB is some kind of Death Metal/Hardcore, DWEF is black metal and FROSTGRIM also
black metal and actually these are the only main differences. All three bands were built on the idea of
compressing personal feelings or points of view into musical and lyrical themes. FYSFB will release their debut
in january 2010 so it's the best you go check it out and forge your own opinion about it. With the split of
FROSTGRIM in 2007 an EP/album (free downloadable on myspace) was released, if you haven't already go
get it as well.
10. The last words are yours.
Thank you very much and have a good time.
